Patent+Policy Forum: Current Initiatives for Patent Law Revision
Event Brief:
Patent+Policy Forum: Current Initiatives for Patent Law Revision
- Location: American University Washington College of Law.
- Date: Friday November 8, 2013
Conversant’s Scott Burt will be a panelist at the Patent+Policy Forum: Current Initiatives for Patent Law Revision, taking place on November 8th at the American University Washington College of Law.
This is the first in a series of roundtables that will explore key issues of patent law and policy. Leading experts from government, industry, law practice and academia will assess current legislative proposals and agency initiatives. Three key areas will be highlighted:
- The rise of patent assertion entities (PAEs),
- The scope and quantity of patents covering software products, and,
- The enforcement of patents covering industry standards and subject to commitments of fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing.
Attendees will explore the proposals to amend U.S. patent law that are currently on the table and analyze their potential effects on litigation, the economy and innovation. How will these initiatives affect current litigation and business practices? Will they reduce perceived problems with the patent system, or do more harm than good? Who stands to benefit and lose, and what are the chances that such changes will be enacted in today’s political environment?
