In “Escaping the prisoner’s dilemma: towards a new transparency in patent licensing”, Joseph Siino, president of Via Licensing, explains that “in economic game theory, the prisoner’s dilemma holds that two rational entities acting in their own self-interest – but without adequate information or knowledge of each other’s plans – will inevitably betray each other and ensure a negative outcome for both. The key ingredient needed for the prisoner’s dilemma to work its destructive magic is a lack of transparency between the parties involved.”  Mr. Siino’s article then discusses how Via is working to bring greater transparency to FRAND licensing.  In the article, Conversant’s CEO Boris Teksler gives his thoughts:
